Ski Boats

Boating Etiquette for Everyone

No matter how long you’ve been boating, it’s always a good idea to refresh your knowledge of guidelines and rules that help everyone have a great time on the water. So whether you’re about to rent your first ski boat or you rent a pontoon boat every summer from Bremer Jet Ski & Watercraft Rental, Inc., we’ve put together a few tips on boating etiquette. Remember, the first place to start is your state’s boating and water regulations. Here’s a link to the guide for Minnesota.

Watch Your Wake

As the driver, you’re responsible for the impact of your wake. Keep a good distance (at least 150 feet) from the shore and other structures to protect the shoreline from premature erosion.  And reduce your wake when passing other boats to keep you from disrupting their day on the water.

Give Space to Other Boaters

Be generous with creating space between you and other watercraft. When you are passing a slower boat, give it as much room as possible — as much as depth and other conditions allow. Recognize that few boats have rearview mirrors and that sound can be distorted on the water, so the other driver may not realize you are overtaking his boat. When you give him more distance, you lessen the chance of a collision.

Be Considerate about Noise

We get it — you’re out there to have a good time. But do your best to be considerate of others and keep music down to a reasonable level. Sound  travels far on the water, and your soundtrack might ruin other boaters’ peace and quiet.

All in all, boating etiquette is pretty simple: take your time to understand how to operate your boat well, and be considerate of others. It’s all about having fun with people you like — and doing what you can to help others enjoy boating too. In Minnesota, boat rentals are one of the most enjoyable ways to spend time with the people you love and, at Bremer Jet Ski & Watercraft Rental, Inc., we love making your best-laid plans come to life. We guarantee your boat rental will be well-maintained and provided to you on time. Contact us today at (612) 298-7055, and you’ll be well on your way to a vacation you’ll never forget.
